Yekan Bakh
Typeface
The “Yekan Bakh” typeface is carefully designed to meet modern needs, featuring a simple, neutral, and pixel-friendly style that also suitable for print. It works efficiently in various contexts.
All characters in Yekan Bakh are crafted in a straightforward, minimalistic style. While it falls into the monoline category, its thickness isn't entirely uniform, This intentional variation, influenced by visual perception and the pen angle, enhances readability.

Yekan Bakh belongs to the monoline category, although its strokes are not entirely uniform in thickness. Optical illusions play an important role in this, as does an understanding of the effects of pen angle. At the beginning and end of every curve, and at every intersection, stroke thicknesses have been carefully adjusted to ensure they look just right.
We went beyond conventional limits by incorporating a variety of geometric shapes. The primary objective was to guarantee both readability and visual allure, with intriguing consideration given to optical illusions. Also, geometric forms can give letters a cold and mechanical personality, especially in Arabic script, which doesn't blend well with geometric forms.
“Yekan Bakh” began with the redesign and development of the Yekan typeface. Yekan was designed by Masoud Sepehr, while Yekan Bakh was designed by Reza Bakhtiarifard in 2014. Over the years, the typeface gradually matured and was further refined and expanded.
In 2024, in collaboration with Mahan Jafarzadeh, 6 width levels were designed for the typeface, from ExtraCondensed to ExtraExpanded. The Latin characters were also designed specifically to complement and harmonize with the Persian characters.
Now, in 2026, Ehsan Roudi has designed the Armenian characters for the typeface.
YekanBakh now has 56 fonts and variable version; it covers +60 languages and is usable in +95 countries.
